Well good luck! 750 words a day is pretty attainable, especially if you’re ok with just blathering on a bit (probably part of why I abandoned it; I can’t turn my inner editor off).

No, there is no limit. Instead, there are rewards. You can write as little or as much as you want, but you don’t get a reward or credit until you hit 750 points. So if you want to get your points for the day, you need to write at least 750 words. If you write more, great! If you only write 750, that’s great too.

I tried 750 Words at one point. Neat concept. It’s kinda like how Health Month is helping me focus on healthier habits in a fun way… this could be very motivating for you!

Ooh, was that coworker me? I used 750words for a bit some time back but haven’t been there in quite a while. It was pretty good for giving you license to just blather on, which maybe didn’t result in the best writing, but which still exercised the writing muscle. I’ve found that working on the Daily Post blog has made me write at least a post a week for the last seven months or so, which has also been good for me discipline-wise. Maybe you should join me!

I completely agree, regarding the workshops, but even before the workshops, you should have a solid writing habit down, or you won’t benefit much from it. One thing I discovered (since I didn’t have a good habit) was that I was struggling more to just have material ready for the workshop than I was preparing myself to actually participate in the workshop.

It also helps to take as many rigorous classes and workshops as possible so you get a sense how you’re developing your skills and voice. You need to write a lot and read a ton of terrific writing. I’ve published two books (so far) and it takes a lot of hard work to get good enough to get an agent to rep you to major publishers.
